It is with deep sadness that we reflect on the passing of Mr. Dan Bekar, a cherished teacher, friend and mentor to many within our Columbiana School family and Columbiana Community. A true Clipper at heart, he played a significant role in shaping the lives of countless students. Mr. Bekar's commitment to education and community extended beyond the classroom, as evidenced by his roles as a dedicated teacher, coach, and Columbiana City Councilman. His impact reached multiple generations of the Columbiana community, whether imparting knowledge in the classroom, guiding students through physical education and wood shop, coaching student-athletes or volunteering in countless community organizations. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the Bekar family.

Please keep the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District in your thoughts and prayers. Today, Tuscarawas Valley students were on board a charter bus headed to Columbus to perform for the Ohio School Boards Association conference when it was involved in a very serious accident. At lease six individuals have lost their lives and another 18 have been injured. Our hearts go out the Tuscararwas community.

One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote… Thank you to State Rep. Monica Robb Blasdel (R-Columbiana County) for taking the time to visit Joshua Dixon Elementary for National Children’s Book Week. Rep. Blasdel read a Dr. Seuss book explaining the voting process to 4th grade students. Students have been studying the branches of government and their function. This week, students will be having in-class elections to serve on the Principal’s Advisory Committee. Students had an opportunity to ask Rep. Blasdel questions about the legislative branch and how to write, debate, and pass bills into law. Students did an amazing job! Thank you again, Representative Blasdel.

Dixon Transportation Correction: It's bus #13. Not bus # 9 that is running late today.

Dixon Transportation Correction: It's bus #13. Good morning! Bus #13 may be running up to 30 mins late this morning. To avoid this, your Bus #13 child may be picked up by an alternative bus #. If able, parents/guardians can also bring their Bus #13 student(s) to school today instead of waiting on the bus. Bus 13 students will not be marked tardy today. Thank you!

Dixon: Good morning Dixon families! This is a reminder that we will be having our annual Fall Fun Day tomorrow, Oct. 27, beginning at 2pm with the parade of costumes. At this time, the weather looks great for an outside parade along North Middle St. in front of the school. Please make sure your child's costume is in a bag, labeled with his/her name. Please do not send props like guns, swords, etc. with costumes. This includes no masks that are extraordinarily gory. Your child should be able to independently put on, over their clothes, and take off their costume. Following the parade, all students will be returning to their classrooms as PTO will be providing a treat for students to enjoy. Parents and relatives are invited to join us for the parade outdoors. Since PTO is providing the treat, there is no need for parents/relatives to enter the building. Dismissal will be as normal. We're looking forward to a fun afternoon.

Good Afternoon what an amazing first day of school for our Preschool and Kindergarten students! Just a reminder for those parents picking up children at Joshua Dixon after school… If coming in from Stanton and making a right, your line will be curb-side in front of the gym. If you are making a left and pulling in, please stay in the second line of traffic. You will need to place the yellow FAMILY NAME TAG on your visor or dash for easy viewing. If you did not get one, please contact the office at 330-482-5355. This will be very help and appreciated by those on duty. Students who walk home will be dismissed shortly before car riders. Please do not park and ask for your child to be dismissed as a walker as they are a car rider. You will thank us during inclement weather. Please remember, the office is your PRIMARY and FIRST line of communication, not your child’s teacher. I realize with Remind and Dojo, that it is convenient to text the teacher, however, teachers are busy teaching and, for safety, we want to make certain all transportation adjustments are through the office. The students know and understand the rules and the process and modes of transportation changes can confuse them. It is important that all PreK-K students know their last name. The name on the Family Car Tag is how they are called from the dismissal room. Many students today did not know their last name and it slowed down the process. Thank you for making this a priority. Again, if not physically walking, students of those parking will need to wait at the front entrance until all car riders are dismissed. This process is not for the impatient but, given time and practice, it works and most of all it is safe. Thank you for your understanding and for your continued support. Dr. Sharshan

Dixon: Thank you to all of the families that attended our annual open house this evening. My sincere apologies for the early evening confusion with obtaining class assignments. Your patience was extremely appreciated while we worked through the brand new process. I was so happy to see so many smiling faces. I hope the children are as excited as we are to start back to school! Thank you again for your understanding. Have a wonderful evening! Dr. Sharshan.
