CMS: Congratulations to Colton Ward!
CMS 8th Grader Colton Ward participated in the Ohio Music Education Association Solo & Ensemble Contest held at Alliance High School on April 13, 2024. Colton played the piano solo, "Wizard Fantasy" by Mary Leaf. He received a Superior (I) rating, the highest rating given, representing a performance with very few technical errors and exemplifying a truly musical expression. The Superior rating is reserved for the truly outstanding performance. Great job, Colton!
CMS: Our scheduled 5th and 8th-grade state assessments today are postponed due to an issue with the state testing portal. Students throughout the state were unable to test today. Cambium Assessment is working to resolve the issue. We hope to be able to run our state assessments tomorrow (part 1) and Friday (part 2) for both 5th and 8th grade.

CMS Reminder: We will operate on a 2-hour early release today (4/8) for the solar eclipse. Students will be dismissed between 12:40 and 12:45. Afternoon transportation will run approximately two hours early today.
Save the date: The 7th/8th Grade Formal Dance will be held on Friday, May 17th from 7:00-9:00 pm.

Just a few reminders as we enter State Testing and the end of the school year...
Parents must call the school before 9:00 A.M. to report their child off when they will not be in attendance. Upon return to school, all students must provide the office with a written note. Per policy, students have 48 hours to provide a physician or parent note. We appreciate your help, as the documentation is essential for attendance auditing purposes.
CMS will begin state testing on Wednesday (4/10) and run through the month of April. Please contact the office for your child's specific state testing dates as you schedule upcoming appointments.

CMS: This is just a reminder that we will operate on a 2-hour early release on Monday, April 8th, for the solar eclipse. CMS Students will be dismissed on Monday from 12:40 to 12:45. Tomorrow (4/5), we will pass out solar eclipse glasses to all students at the end of the day.
Please remember:
1. The only time it is safe to take the glasses off while viewing the solar eclipse event is during the brief period of totality when the sun is completely covered by the moon. This will last at most four-and-a-half minutes. As soon as the moon starts to move, it's time to put the glasses on again.
2. While it may be enticing to observe the sun slowly covered and eventually completely blocked by the moon, doing so without proper safety eyewear can result in long-lasting or permanent eye damage.
3. Regular sunglasses will not offer proper protection, nor will stacking several pairs of sunglasses.

Our Columbiana Middle School team that won the state VEX IQ robotics championship will travel to Dallas, Texas, for the World Competition. This amazing group of students shared their experiences with the Board of Education on Tuesday, March 12th.

CMS: Congratulations to all of our robotics teams. We were fortunate enough to have four CMS teams qualify for state. We will have more information on our teams, but happy to report that one of our teams have qualified for the Worlds competition! Go Clips!

CMS: Reminder: The 7th/8th Grade Casual Dance, Island Paradise, is this evening (3/1) from 6:00-8:00. Tickets are $4 at the door, and snacks will be available for purchase. Feel free to wear your school-appropriate Hawaiian attire.
