Dear Clipper Families, Our Clipper community experienced an unimaginable tragedy with the loss of one of our students. Our prayers, thoughts, and support remain with the family and friends of this young man. As we all navigate this difficult time, we will provide grief counselors across the district for students and staff.

Attention South Side Middle School: Due to overall positive COVID cases through the past week and associated quarantines, the South Side Middle School’s students grades 5-8 and staff will be required to wear facial coverings for any instances where social distancing cannot be adhered to through Friday, October 22nd. Although we have not had a positive 7th grade case in over three and a half weeks, we share staff and facilities with the other grade levels which have experienced school community spread. While the overall district data has been good, the middle school must increase mitigation efforts. This is a building-wide requirement. We would like to remind all parents to be vigilant regarding any symptoms of illness while we have a presence of this disease in the greater community. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to minimize occurrences of COVID in our schools.

Due to positive COVID cases and associated quarantines, the South Side Middle School 5th grade students and staff will be required to wear facial coverings for a two week period beginning tomorrow, 10-7 through 10-21 for any instances where social distancing cannot be adhered to. Increased mitigation timelines for face coverings may be extended or expanded depending on additional data over the next two weeks. This response is in accordance with the district plan and work with the district leadership team. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Dear Dixon Families especially those of car riders, please know that beginning tomorrow (9/29/21), the intersection of Salem and North Middle will be closed due to construction. Those dropping off/picking up in a car will have to come in via Stanton St. As cars exit the front lot, you can still make a right-turn but will have to turn left next to the library and a right on the Vine Street alley-way to get back onto Salem St. Our apologies for the inconvenience. The Foreman on site said that the intersection should be un-blocked in a few days. Thank you for your understanding, continued support, and patience.

Attention Columbiana School Community: The Columbiana and Mahoning County Departments of Health will be issuing a school exclusion letter for anyone who is deemed a close contact through an exposure to individuals positive with COVID during school or a school activity. This is a new process and form that is being issued by the health departments. The letter is on the school districts web page. Here is a link for your review: https://5il.co/ys8x If a student or staff member is not vaccinated or not wearing a mask at the time of an exposure, they will need to follow the Department of Health’s guidelines for quarantine. We recommend that anyone who has not been vaccinated wear a mask to minimize the possibility of quarantine and decrease the risk of an exposure to COVID. The district web-page will maintain a dashboard indicating the number of cases among staff and students until further notice. The Columbiana Department of Health has listed their number on the form if you have direct questions about this process. Thank you and enjoy the beautiful weekend.

Good evening Dixon Families! First, thank you to those of you that continue to follow our dismissal protocols. We realize that these protocols are not always convenient but the safety of our students is our first priority. We appreciate your support as we release students to you as safely as possible. Unfortunately, we are finding the need to once again send the following reminders: students are not to be designated as a walker if they are walking to cars in other lots or if you meet them at the door and walk them to your car. They are walkers if they walk from the school straight to a home. Effective Monday Sept. 13, any student being dismissed as a walker must provide a letter with an address to the location where they are walking. We will be dismissing walkers using a walker checklist at the front door at dismissal to add an additional layer of safety. If you drive your vehicle to pick up your student(s), you must use the car rider pick up line. We realize that often, relatives will pick up students. Please let them know of these protocols. Together we can ensure that all of our students are arriving home safely. With much appreciation, Mrs. Freedy and Mrs. Sharshan

THANK YOU to our parents for your proactive approach to wellness in our schools. We have had several positive cases of COVID that have had very little impact to the student body and staff. This is attributed to your diligence to keeping your children home when they have symptoms of illness. This also reduces the spread to other illnesses in our schools. If you have any questions or concerns about the wellness of your child, our nurses are available by phone or in person. Our dashboard indicating COVID positive cases will be updated on the schools web-page. Thank you again for your help controlling the spread of all illnesses in our schools. Keep up the good work!!
