We live in a day and age where most people are on some form of social media. Anyone who has a social media account knows how quickly a post can spread in a matter of seconds. While the First Amendment allows for free speech, everyone needs to be mindful of what he or she is posting/commenting through a social media platform. Parents, please remind your children who are on social media, that posts/comments can work their way into the school district and lead to disciplinary action and even a police referral. The middle school and high school has had several issues regarding social media posts and is addressing these issues thoroughly and directly. One such issue has been investigated and addressed by the Columbiana Police Department. We appreciate your support in mitigating any future disruptions to the educational process and the safety and well-being of our staff and students. Thank you.

Hello Clippers: The Columbiana Board of Education would like to take a moment to acknowledge the tremendous job that our teachers, aides, secretaries, custodians, bus-drivers, kitchen staff, crossing guard, coaches, and principals are all doing with education for the Columbiana Community. Our staff has reacted to in an unknown educational environment, and everyone in our schools are working together to provide the best simultaneous remote and in-person educational programs anywhere. Each one of our unique buildings, subjects, departments, and grade levels have found a way to cement instruction and promote a high quality education for the countless individual needs during this global pandemic. The Board of Education hopes that our parents, community members and students will recognize our staff and thank them for the extra-effort necessary to operate our schools this fall. Additionally, our parents and students should receive a pat on the back for their resolve to wear masks, increase hand washing, socially distance, and stay home when sick. Keep up the great work! We will continue to count on one another.

September 8, 2020 Dear School Community, The Columbiana Exempted Village School District is committed to the safety and health of our students and staff. We want to inform you that that we have recently received information about at least one confirmed case of COVID-19 in a student at Josha Dixon Elementary School. Cleaning and disinfecting of the exposed classrooms have been completed. Joshua Dixon Elementary will remain open at this time. We are working closely with Columbiana County Health Department and anyone identified as a close contact will be notified by the health department as a part of COVID-19 investigation. How You Can Help: Be proactive about reducing the number of interactions that students and staff have with one another by practicing social distancing (staying at least 6 feet apart) to limit the spread of COVID-19. In addition to physical distancing, these important tools help to prevent the spread of COVID-19: • Stay home when you are sick. • Wear a mask or face covering while in public places or if people who don’t live with you must visit your home. • Avoid unnecessary gatherings with people who don’t live in your home. • Avoid sharing food, drinks, or utensils. • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers that contain at least 60% alcohol. • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, and then dispose of the tissue and wash your hands immediately. If you do not have a tissue, use your sleeve, not your hands, to cover coughs and sneezes. If you are experiencing cough or congestion, consider staying home and seeking medical care. • Regularly clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends cleaning of frequently touched surfaces with household cleaners and EPA-registered disinfectants that are appropriate for the surface, following label instructions. A simple bleach solution may also be utilized. If you have any questions, contact our school nurse, Mrs. Costal, at 330-482-5355 or the Columbiana Heath Department at 330-424-0272. Thank you for helping to keep people safe and to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and school. For answers to your COVID-19 questions, call 1-833-4-ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634) or visit coronavirus.ohio.gov. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. If you or a loved one are experiencing anxiety related to the coronavirus pandemic, help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call the COVID-19 CareLine at 1-800-720-9616. Sincerely, Donald Mook, Ed.D. Columbiana Superintendent of Schools.

Columbiana Clipper School Community Message: This is a message to notify you that one of our elementary parents has informed the district of a presumed case of COVID19 with their child. The presumed case is asymptomatic and will be quarantined as directed by the Columbiana County Health Department. Mrs. Sharshan and school nurse, Mrs. Costal, have notified staff and the parents of students who may be contacted by the Health Department for further contact tracing and the need to quarantine. The Columbiana Health Department determines who needs to quarantine. All classrooms and areas have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. The potential spread has been narrowed by the self-contained classrooms in our Pre-K – 8 building plans for mitigating the virus. Face masks, daily thermal temperature scans, hand sanitizing stations, mandatory hand washing, and continued use of electrostatic disinfecting devices will be key to minimizing spread in the schools. Thank you to our parents who promptly assisted the district with reporting this presumed case, as identified in our district ReEntry Plan. It is important that parents continue to monitor students for well-being and for potential symptoms. Your communication and commitment to wellness protocols will be the difference in our ability to provide in person educational opportunities to our students. Reporting instances like this and following the symptoms chart in our ReEntry Plan, located on the district website, will allow our schools to effectively reduce the spread of the COVID19 virus. We appreciate your continued support for safety protocols.
