Since November of 2018 interested students 5th -8th grade have been participating in an after school electronics class where they have been learning electrical theory, WiFi and radio theory, how to read schematic diagrams and building practical circuits.
For the past 6 weeks students have been studying for an FCC license to operate an amateur radio station. The test is very difficult, especially for middle school age, who, may not have had any of the base algebra, math and physics knowledge that is very helpful in passing these exams. Students in the options electronics class were given an opportunity to take the FCC licensing exam if they were interested.
Congratulations to the following:
Katie Campbell, 5th grade student, passed her technician license and is now an FCC licensed amateur radio operator.
Mrs. Ashlee Sherwood, 7th and 8th grade science teacher. Mrs. Sherwood has been co-teaching the after school activity with Sgt. Boley. Mrs. Sherwood passed her technician license and is now a licensed amateur radio operator.
Sgt. Wade Boley passed the highest level of amateur radio class licensing offered by the FCC, the Extra license.
All new licensees received a new ham radio transceiver. A very special thank you to Mrs. Sherwood and Mr. Boley for making this learning experience possible for our students.
