Columbiana High School senior Kylie Cameron was named to the 2023 Girls STEMpede Top Ten Inspiring Women in STEM list. One of only two high schoolers to be named to the list, every other inspiring woman awarded to the 2023 Girls STEMpede Top Ten Inspiring Women in STEM list is currently in a Ph.D. program or working as an engineer, showing just what achievement it takes to be named to this list.
Kylie was named to this list based on her activism work advocating for women in STEM through her organization We Can STEAM and her work to achieve educational equity in STEM for girls in rural areas through her other organization, Rural Women in STEM.
In addition to this, she was recognized because of her participation in the Built By Girls WAVE Mentorship Program, the 2021 Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program, the 2022 and 2023 Girls Who Code Self-Paced Program, the TechGirlz Teen Advisory Board, the United Nations Girl Up Program and Leadership Course, the Girl Up United Nations STEM for Social Good Club, VEX Robotics, and the Congressional App Challenge Student Advisory Board, Winning the 2021 Congressional App Challenge, and being awarded the 2023 National Center for Women in Information Technology¥s Ohio Affiliate Award.
In the future, Kylie will attend the University of Akron where she was chosen as a Williams Honors College Student and an Emerging Leaders Program Student with honors and academic scholarships majoring in Computer Science and Education.
